VA Senior Open 2018

BRIEF REVIEW: Below are the results from the VA Senior Open tournament held in 2018. We tried out a new venue this year and everyone raved about the hotel (Marriott Residence Inn - Ballston) and the location in Ballston, VA - just outside of Washington, DC. The format was 5 rounds over 3 days each at a G/120, d5 time control. And a Blitz tournament (G/3 +2) was also held. Results for both are posted below.

The winner of the VA Senior Open also wins a free entry into the 2nd annual National Senior Tournament of Champions as Virginia's representative. The National Senior tournament is a USCF invitational for the senior champions from each state. This tournament is a 6 round event held just prior to and in the same venue as the US Open chess tournament. This year that venue is the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, FL from August 3-6.

Shall Hoshall (right) won the VA Senior Open for 2018 and will represent VA in the 2019 National tournament. Congrats (!) and "best-of-luck" to Shawn in representing the Ol' Dominion in Orlando!
